Kakita Monk School
History: Following the ascension and subsequent destruction of an unabashedly evil Shadowlands general from the Kakita family, Kakita Norimichi, the Kakita family was thrown into ruin. The Lion, newly armed with magically-powered radiant weapons created by the Kitsu, turned their armies on the Kakita to wipe them from existence, fueled by their long term hatred of the family and as punishment for Norimichi's action, even though Norimichi's armies were of Shadowlands creatures, not the duelists and artisans of the Kakita. The Crane armies had no such weapons with which to defend themselves; the Asahina had proven unable to develop radiant weapons. In desperation, as the Lion were about to wipe the last stronghold of the Kakita from existence, the Crane artisans called on the teachings of Kakita Wayozu. Long ago, in ancient history, Wayozu had used the power of her artisans to drag a Crane army and a Crab army into the pages of a book. The artisans of the Kakita did the same, and part of the attacking Lion army...and the Crane, disappeared.
The Kakita Monks believe that the entire world around them, the modern age as the Empire knows it, are within the pages of the story into which they have been dragged, and they alone are aware that it is a fiction. They see the story having a climax, one day, the Day of Thunder, which will allow them to be released from this fiction and return to a reality as their ancestors knew it. They watch as the world around them spirals into mendacity and mediocrity, as multiple near-Climaxes pass and fail. These all, to them, are signs that the writing has gone stale, that the book has passed its end, and that they must seek the climax, the heroes and legends, and do what they must to make it happen and bring the book to a proper ending.
They fear that if the Shadowlands and other forces within the book do not provide, they may have to do it themselves.
Because they do not entirely believe the reality around them, the reality around them does not entirely believe in them. The Crane does support them...out of embarrassed obligation, perhaps, but only with the understanding that they keep their order secret from the rest of the Empire. There is no doubt their ways would be harmful and sacrilegious. But they are the only Kakita left.
All Kakita Monks have the following Advantage:
Ancient's Blessing (Cost: 3) You roll as though you had emphasis in the appropriate skill when wielding tools or weapons created using ancient methods. Ancient weapons do the same damage and ancient armor absorbs the same damage as their modern equivalents.
All Kakita Monks have the following Disadvantage:
Cursed by the Ancients (Cost: 3) When you must keep a 4 or less on a dice on any roll using a modern device it stops functioning for 1k1 sequences.

Rank 1 School Technique: The Way of the Sword
Brothers of the Temple of the Book and Sword are dedicated to finding enlightenment along the path of the sword. When wielding a traditional katana they may use the Kenjutsu in place of Jujitsu when performing atemi.
Rank 3 School Technique: The Way of the Book
Replaces: Brotherhood Monk 3 Kiho
Requirements: Air 4, Fire 4, Iaijutsu 3, Cursed by the Ancients
Technique: Turn the Page - The monk may activate his Cursed by the Ancients Disadvantage to targeting a piece of technology directly as if it were a mystical kiho. (Atemi - activate on attack with Meditation/Void TN 15): Disrupt technology on the target of an unarmed or katana attack. A number of times equal to the monk's Void, when the target attempts a roll one random piece of technology fails for 1k1 rounds if he keeps a dice equal to or less than 4. This cannot trigger more than once per roll. For large, multi-system pieces of technology, only one subsystem will fail. The GM selects which item or subsystem of the technology fails.
