Court Games
Court Games
Here are a variety of Court Games or competitions that can be conducted, in a Winter Court or any other formal setting to earn Influence and learn more of your rivals and allies.
Sake Tasting
Each participant is expected to try 5 cups with 5 different kinds of sake. Then they are served a 6th cup, and need to identify which of the five kinds of sake they were just served. If they are correct, they advance to the next round. If they are incorrect, they drop out. Then they are served 5 more kinds of sake in the next round, and have to guess the 6th from among them. And so on until everyone has dropped out. The person who survives the most rounds is the winner.
Winding Water Banquet
Small cups of sake are floated along a small creak or artificial channel in little boats. Each participant is expected to pick up a cup, drink it in one shot, and then recite or compose a haiku on the spot for the crowd. If they spill the sake, or compose an unworthy haiku, they are eliminated from the competition. If they do not, and their haiku is considered worthy enough, they advance to the next round. Each round is expected to have better and better haiku. The winner is the one who makes it to the final round with the best poem.
Night of a 1000 Screams
Bowman's Wager
Each participant is given 20 arrows. The first competition, in archery, is at fixed straw targets. The best shots of the participants then advance to the next round, where the straw targets are shot from horseback. In the next round, in old tradition, the shots are made at animals that have been loosed in the open field. In the final round, the final two contestants square off and make a wager between them at who can hit a target they select. The winner of the wager wins the competition. Traditionally, the loser must drink 'The Cup of Defeat' which bodes for ill luck in the coming year.
